Mission
Fostering a Culture of Environmental Stewardship at Brown University
How, when, and why group was founded
EcoReps has been working with the Department Facilities Management since before any of it’s current members can remember! The current EcoReps team started building the group back up in the fall of 2008. EcoReps work with the Office of Energy and Environmental Programs to engage students in Brown’s efforts to “develop sustainable and equitable patterns of local and global resource use… minimize energy use, reduce negative environmental impacts and promote environmental stewardship.”
EcoReps focuses on campus-based infrastructure and outreach programs that encourage all students to live green. To reach these goals EcoReps organizes Brown’s participation numerous annual competitions and programs such Campus Conservation Nationals, RecycleMania and Clean Break. We also run bi-weekly trainings so our members can serve as informed environment liaisons to their fellow students in their dorms. History of the group
Lost in the sands of time…
What the group is currently working on
EcoReps is gearing up for epic semester of green outreach! We will be doing 8 weeks of recycling and waste reduction events for Recyclemania, planning a larger than life (or maybe to scale… one ton of carbon is pretty big!) Earth Day awareness campaign and learning more about composting, lab energy use, and LEED certified buildings on campus!
Why live green at Brown?
(cause it’s AWESOME and you get STICKERS!)
Upcoming events
RecycleMania! – 8 week recycling and waste reduction competition 2/6 – 4/2
Clean Break – Annual move-out recycling and donation collection initiative 5/12 – 5/31
As part of Campus Conservation Nationals EcoReps traded old incandescent bulbs for energy saving CFLs. This switch will save 12,000 lbs of CO2 and $1,000 in the next year!
