BCAF: Brown Climate Action Fund

BCAF’s mission is to reduce Brown’s carbon footprint by providing resources to students with ideas for on-campus carbon reduction projects. We are also a launching platform for off-campus energy efficiency and conservation ideas.

In its 3+ semesters as a group, BCAF has made considerable progress on many initiatives. The pilot project was EcoFlow, a campaign to replace Brown’s old, inefficient shower heads with new, high-efficiency models. The project, which replaced over 800 dormitory shower heads, came to completion in the fall of 2010. In that same semester, students new to BCAF started three initiatives: one focused on tableslip replacement, one focused on vending machine efficiency, and one focused on SafeRIDE upgrades.

First and foremost, BCAF is dedicated to filling the needs of its student projects. We hope to see full commitment by Facilities to at least one of our projects by the end of the semester. On an administrative scale, BCAF is working to improve communication between students looking for projects and projects in Facilities looking for students.

The student leaders of BCAF are Tim Dingman and Spencer Lawrence. Please contact spencerblawrence (AT) gmail (DOT) com for more information.
