Well, a few of you are interested in joining ICE, so here’s some background as to what we are and what we’ve been up to.
Who the hell is ICE?
- We’re an organization working with Brown Climate and Energy leaders to fulfill three fundamental charges: Integrate. Collaborate. Educate.
- Our current approach is to increase the visibility and accessibility of Brown’s resources in Climate and Energy, bringing together students, professors, alumni, and community groups.
- Cool perk: We talk with a lot of important people. Over the last month we’ve talked with Ruth, half the VP’s, several deans, and Chairs of 5 departments. We really do make a difference!
- We’re working on three major projects right now
- ICE Talks
- We’re bringing in an assortment of speakers from all over the Brown community to start dialogues about creative solutions in Climate and Energy
- We’re trying for weekly talks, Tuesday at noon. Bring a lunch!
- Carbon capture, backyard windmills, algorithmic demand matching; whatever you fancy, we do it
- The talks are cosponsored by the Energy Science Working Group, a collection of Brown scientists working on energy solutions at Brown. If you’re into research, they’re really interested in having students help!
- Do you know professors who would be willing to speak? We need help getting more professors involved with these talks!
- ICE-UTRA
- We’re working with Dean Rodriguez, the UTRA dean, on an UTRA specifically targeting research that bridges sciences and humanities
- There’s been some pretty good progress made on this, but we could always use help working with the development office.
- Alumni Network
- We’re putting together a network of Alumni who are interested in keeping up with the latest developments in the Brown community
- Several alumni are interested in coming back to speak about what they’ve done since they graduated
- This project is pretty barebones, so we need help managing alumni relations
- ICE Talks
